Missed the dMAT registration deadline? Here is what actually happens next

The first dMAT sitting in India is on 26 September 2026 and registration for it closed on 15 September. If you are reading this because that date has gone, here is the situation as plainly as it can be put, with what is known separated from what is not.

What is known

Seats were first-come, first-served with no waitlist, and the registration window is closed. As of 5 September 2026, g.a.s.t. has not announced a second sitting for 2026. The official position is that the next date will be published on d-mat.de and in the test-taker portal when it is set. Any page that gives you a date for a second 2026 sitting is guessing.

First: check whether you needed it at all

Roughly half the people who search for this do not. You are not required to sit the dMAT if any of these is true:

• You registered for APS, or posted your APS documents, before 29 June 2026. The submission date counts, not the certificate date.
• You already hold an APS certificate from before that date.
• You are applying for Winter Semester 2026/27. The requirement starts with Summer Semester 2027.
• Your bachelor's is outside the affected fields — engineering (including CS/IT), commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business and management.
• You are a bachelor's, PhD, exchange or double-degree applicant.

Borderline degree — BCA, B.Sc Computer Science, data science, business analytics? Check it here, then email APS India for written confirmation. Do that before you plan anything else.

If you do need it, the three routes

1. Wait for the next announced sitting

This is the default. Summer Semester 2027 application deadlines at most German universities fall between December 2026 and January 2027, and APS verification has to finish before that. Whether a second sitting lands in time depends entirely on a date that does not exist yet. Watch d-mat.de, and set up your g.a.s.t. portal account now so that registering takes five minutes when the window opens — the first one filled centre by centre.

2. Submit everything else to APS now

APS India accepts the rest of your documentation before the dMAT certificate exists. Verification of your degree, transcripts and identity can run in parallel; the certificate is the last piece, not the first. Nothing about missing the sitting stops you starting the APS process today, and doing so removes one variable from a timeline that now has fewer of them.

3. Move the target to Winter Semester 2027/28

Uncomfortable, but for many applicants it is the honest answer. The dMAT is required for every intake from Summer 2027 onward, so it does not go away; but a later intake gives the second sitting, whenever it is, time to fit. The certificate has lifetime validity, so a test sat in early 2027 serves every future application.

What not to do

• Do not pay anyone who says they can get you a seat. Registration runs only through the g.a.s.t. portal and the €150 fee goes only to g.a.s.t. There is no agent channel and no reserved allocation.
• Do not stop preparing. The exam does not change between sittings: three Core Module subtests, 75 seconds an item, nothing to write on. A candidate who uses the extra months on pacing sits the next date better prepared than anyone who registered on time this cycle.
