Exam facts verified 23 August 2026 against g.a.s.t. (d-mat.de) and APS India (aps-india.de). Answer formats checked against the official dMAT demo exam. The dMAT is a first-year exam and its rules move — confirm anything date-sensitive at the official source before you act on it.
Most people asking this do not need the exam at all, and a good number who assume they are safe do. Four questions, built on the criteria APS India and g.a.s.t. actually published. Nothing you answer leaves your browser.
The checker above is only a wrapper around these. All four must be true for the dMAT to apply to you — if any single one is false, it does not.
| # | Criterion | You are outside it if… |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | You are applying for a Master's degree | You are applying for a bachelor's or a PhD, or you are on an exchange, double-degree or partnership programme |
| 2 | Your intake is Summer Semester 2027 or later | You are applying for Winter Semester 2026/27 or earlier |
| 3 | Your bachelor's is in engineering (incl. CS and IT), commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business or management | Your degree is in medicine, humanities, law, architecture or the pure sciences |
| 4 | Your APS process started on or after 29 June 2026 | You registered or shipped documents before that date, or already hold an APS certificate |
Criterion 3 is where people get hurt, because APS India classifies on the exact degree title and branch printed on your certificate and not on what the course is called in the brochure. A B.Sc. in Data Science, a Business Analytics degree, a BCA, an integrated dual degree — all have been described as exempt in some guidance and affected in others.
There is no clever way to resolve this from the outside. Email APS India, describe the degree exactly as your certificate words it, and get the answer in writing before you pay the fee. Nobody selling you preparation, us included, can give you that answer.
Registration and the EUR 150 fee are handled by g.a.s.t. at d-mat.de, and by nobody else. The APS documentation fee of Rs 18,000 is separate, so the realistic budget is around Rs 34,500. Then it is worth knowing what the paper actually looks like — try twelve free practice questions, no account needed, and read the eight things most guides get wrong before you buy preparation from anyone.
You need the dMAT if all four are true: you are applying for a Master's in Germany, for Summer Semester 2027 or later, with a bachelor's in engineering including CS and IT, commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business or management, and you started your APS process on or after 29 June 2026. If any one of those is false, it does not apply to you.
Anyone who completed APS online registration or shipped documents before 29 June 2026, anyone who already holds an APS certificate, Bachelor's and PhD applicants, students on exchange, double-degree or partnership programmes, applicants for Winter Semester 2026/27 or earlier, and applicants whose degree is outside the affected fields.
It is genuinely unclear and depends on your certificate. APS India classifies eligibility on the exact degree title and branch printed on your certificate and transcripts, not on the programme's common name. BCA, standalone computer science and B.Sc. Data Science have been reported as exempt in some guidance and affected in others. Email APS India and get it in writing.
Yes. APS India's published position is that completing online registration before 29 June 2026 exempts you for that procedure, even if the hard copies were shipped afterwards. The date that counts is submission, not when a certificate is issued.
No. It encodes the criteria published by APS India and g.a.s.t. and nothing more. DMAT Club is an independent preparation platform with no affiliation to either body. Treat the result as a first pass and confirm your own case with APS India in writing.
You lose the EUR 150 fee, roughly Rs 16,500, and a day. The certificate does no harm - it carries lifetime validity - but there is no refund for sitting an exam that did not apply to you, which is why the borderline cases are worth confirming before you pay.
Twelve free practice questions, no account, under real conditions - so you know what you are walking into.
