Exam facts verified 23 August 2026 against g.a.s.t. (d-mat.de) and APS India (aps-india.de). Answer formats checked against the official dMAT demo exam. The dMAT is a first-year exam and its rules move — confirm anything date-sensitive at the official source before you act on it.

Three questions arrive together the moment someone finishes a first mock: can I sit it again, what does the number mean, and who sees it. The answers are shorter than the anxiety around them.
Yes. g.a.s.t. publishes no lifetime limit on attempts, and each sitting is a fresh registration at the standard €150 fee. What limits retakes in practice is not a rule but the calendar: one sitting has been held in India (26 September 2026) and the next has not been announced. If your first result disappoints, the question is not whether you may retake but whether a sitting exists before the deadline you are working to.
Two things follow. First, treat the sitting you have booked as the one that counts, because it may be the only one that fits your intake. Second, if you are reading this before registering for a future sitting: the certificate has lifetime validity, so there is no reason to delay a sitting you are ready for.
The dMAT reports on a 0–200 scale with a mean of 100, alongside a percentile rank that says what share of candidates you outscored. The Core Module and the General Academic Module contribute to the total; results are evaluated centrally in Bochum by g.a.s.t.
The scoring model is not published. Nobody outside g.a.s.t. knows how raw answers become the scaled figure, and no university has a graduating dMAT cohort to calibrate against yet. Any site that translates a mock score into a predicted official score is inventing the conversion. Our own mocks show an estimated band and label it as exactly that.

The dMAT certificate is issued by g.a.s.t., not APS India, from 12 October 2026 for the first sitting. Your result is then reflected on the APS certificate — the document every German university you apply to will read. So the score is visible to admissions offices whether or not they ask for it.
No. APS India has stated that the dMAT is not a stand-alone pass-or-fail test for the APS certificate and that a low score does not automatically lead to a refusal. What APS requires is that the certificate is submitted; the score itself is information for universities, which decide independently how to use it.
That last clause is the one to read twice. In the first cycle, most programmes have no policy yet, because none has ever seen a dMAT score. Some will weight it; many will glance at it; the honest position in September 2026 is that nobody, including the universities, knows how much it will matter for a given programme. Prepare as if it does, and do not let anyone sell you certainty either way.

Read it as a diagnosis. The real exam is 56 Core items at roughly 75 seconds each with nothing to write on, and a first mock score almost always reflects pace and format unfamiliarity more than reasoning ability. Find the weakest subtest, fix the method untimed, then put it back under the clock. Our guide to reading a first mock score goes through what each band usually means.
There is no published lifetime limit. Each sitting is a separate registration and fee. In practice you are limited by how many sittings g.a.s.t. schedules before your application deadline.
There is no pass mark. Results are a 0-200 scaled score (mean 100) with a percentile. Universities decide individually how to use it, and in the first cycle most have no stated policy yet.
Yes. The certificate is issued by g.a.s.t. and the result is reflected on your APS certificate, which every university you apply to will see.
Yes. A result from one cycle can be used for any later application.
