No. The dMAT is not an MBA entrance exam. It does not work like CAT, the GMAT or the GRE, no business school sets a dMAT cut-off, and a low score does not block an admission.
The confusion is understandable. "Master Assessment Test" reads like an admission test, and the fields it covers — commerce, finance, economics, business, management — are exactly the fields an MBA applicant comes from. But it does a different job.
The short version. An entrance exam ranks applicants so an institution can select between them. The dMAT is a document inside the APS India verification process. It is sat once, the result is valid for life, and APS issues your certificate regardless of the score.
| An MBA entrance exam | The dMAT | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Rank applicants for selection | Verify study aptitude inside APS |
| Who sets the bar | The school, with a published cut-off | No cut-off is published by anyone |
| Sat how often | Yearly, retaken to improve | Once; the result is valid for life |
| If you score badly | You are not admitted | You still receive your APS certificate |
| Tests | Subject and quantitative ability | Reasoning under time, with nothing to memorise |
Some do. It depends on your degree and your intake, not on the programme being an MBA. If you hold a bachelor's in commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business or management, and you are applying for Summer Semester 2027 or later through APS India, then yes — the dMAT is part of your file.
If your intake is earlier than that, or your field is outside the covered list, it may not apply to you at all. Roughly half the people who land on this site do not have to sit it. Our eligibility checker settles it in about a minute, and it costs nothing.

No, and it does not compete with it. If a German business school asks for a GMAT score, it will still ask for one; the dMAT does not satisfy that requirement and was never meant to. They answer to different people — the GMAT to the school, the dMAT to APS.
The practical consequence is that an MBA applicant in a covered field may need both, for different reasons, in the same application cycle. We cover the overlap in GRE vs dMAT.
Nothing from a business syllabus. Two modules on one day: a Core Module of three timed puzzle formats — figure sequences, mental algebra, grid logic — and a General Academic Module of short academic material with questions on it, where everything you need is on the screen.
There is no negative marking, no notes, no calculator, and nothing to revise. Which is why preparation is almost entirely a matter of format familiarity and pacing, and why an applicant who is excellent at quantitative aptitude can still lose marks on Figure Sequences the first time they meet one.
No. It is a study-aptitude test that sits inside the APS India verification process. No business school publishes a dMAT cut-off, and a low score does not block an APS certificate.
