No. The dMAT and the TMS are different exams, run by different bodies, for different applicants. If you are an Indian Master's applicant inside the APS process, the TMS has nothing to do with you.
This needs saying because at least one prep provider's live dMAT product page describes its own diagnostic as a taste of German medical-admission exam conditions, and frames the exam as preparation for medical study in Germany. As of 30 August 2026, that page is still up.

They are not variants of one another. They test different populations at different points in an academic career, and no part of one substitutes for the other.

A page that frames the dMAT as medical-admissions preparation gets two things wrong at once, and both cost the reader.
It misdescribes the content. The dMAT Core Module is three fixed task types — Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares. The TMS has its own separate set of subtests. Preparing for one using material built for the other means practising formats that will not appear.
It misdescribes who should be there. A medicine applicant who lands on a dMAT page believing it applies to them will prepare for an exam they are not sitting. A Master's applicant reading medical framing may reasonably conclude the page is not for them and leave.
Three questions settle it.
Are you applying for a Master's or an undergraduate degree? The dMAT is a Master's-level requirement. Bachelor's applicants are not required to sit it under the current rules.
Is your field on the APS India affected list? Engineering, commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business and management. Medicine is not on it.
Did APS India ask you for it? The dMAT is a document inside the APS process. If APS India has not told you it applies, check with them in writing before you pay for anything — the exam fee alone is EUR 150.

TestAS comes up more often than the TMS. It is also from g.a.s.t., which makes the confusion more forgivable, but it is aimed at undergraduate applicants and it is not a substitute for the dMAT either. We cover that distinction separately.
