dMAT stands for Digital Master Assessment Test. It is a
standardised study-aptitude test run by g.a.s.t., the TestDaF Institute in
Bochum, for applicants to Master's degree programmes in Germany.
Each word is doing a job:

What it means here
Digital
Sat on a computer at a test centre. There is no paper
version and no at-home option.
Master
For Master's admission, not bachelor's. This is the word
that makes people read it as an MBA exam.
Assessment
It assesses aptitude rather than knowledge. Nothing
is memorised and no syllabus is published.
Test
One sitting, centrally evaluated in Bochum, and the result
is valid for life.
The lower-case "d" is how g.a.s.t. writes it. You will see DMAT, dMAT and
d-MAT used interchangeably; they are the same exam.
The one-line version. dMAT = Digital
Master Assessment Test, a German study-aptitude test that Indian applicants in
certain fields must complete as part of APS for Summer Semester 2027
onwards.
Four other things called DMAT
The acronym is heavily overloaded, and a search for it returns at least four
unrelated things. If you arrived here looking for one of these, none of the rest
of this site will help:
Demat account. A dematerialised securities account for
holding Indian shares electronically. Different spelling, completely different
subject — if you are trying to buy shares, you want "demat".
DMAT — Disaster Medical Assistance Team. A US federal
emergency medical response unit under the National Disaster Medical System.
Searches like "DMAT team jobs", "DMAT nurse" and "NJ-1 DMAT" all mean
this.
MP DMAT. A medical and dental entrance examination
associated with Madhya Pradesh. Unrelated to the German exam and run by entirely
different people.
Digital Maturity Assessment Tool. A business
self-assessment framework, sometimes abbreviated the same way.

What the dMAT contains
Two modules on one exam day, about three hours in total with a break between
them.
Core Module. Three timed subtests — Figure Sequences,
Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares. Reasoning formats, not subject
knowledge.
General Academic Module. Short academic material with
questions on it, drawn from eight subject areas, where everything you need is on
the screen.
There is no negative marking, no notes and no calculator. Scores are reported
on a 0–200 scale per module; the scoring model itself is not published, so
treat any provider quoting you a precise predicted score with suspicion.
Who has to sit it
Master's applicants going through APS India for Summer Semester 2027 or later,
holding a bachelor's in engineering, commerce, accounting, finance, economics,
business or management. It was introduced by APS India on 29 June 2026.
Roughly half the people who search for this do not need to sit it at all.
